Prompts to introspect yourself throughout the day
Have you ever had a feeling that you want to write something in a journal but don’t know where to start?
If you enjoy our weekly newsletter, please hit the heart button to support and share the love :)
When I talk to my friends in my program I always ask “Do you keep a journal”? This probably won’t surprise you but the answer for most is “I want to but I am not sure if I will be consistent”
There are lot of things we should be doing but — we don’t do them. Simply because we don’t know HOW to do it or don’t know what we are suppose to write. It’s just like when you were in school. Do you remember all those times you had a question on your mind but you didn’t ask? You probably thought “Maybe the teacher thinks I’m dumb.”
Well, this is exactly the same. We all think that Journaling is easy so we don’t bother asking how you do it. It’s not easy, but it’s also not rocket science. The majority of us still view Journaling as a leisure, something we do for enjoyment or to unwind. Sure, those reasons might be true for some. But for most, there’s only one why: Self-improvement. Journaling doesn’t have to be in exquisite hardcover books with clean, beautiful calligraphy created by candlelight before dawn. Sometimes my deepest thoughts has turned into 15-minute increments of jotting things I’m grumpy about and interrupted by phone-checking. However, I still value my own writing even though it's not picture-perfect because it gives me a space to be wholly authentic.
How do you expect to improve yourself if you don’t know yourself? You truly get to know the quality of your thoughts when you write them down.
When I journal, I dive deeper and write about my fears, anxiety, future, past, expectations and what not..I do this because when I lose myself in something and when Life seems dreary or monotonous, I just go through my journal and see when I was inspired, felt energized, or motivated. Then, I recreate those events. Here are some of the prompts which
Our emotions are consistently changing as we spend more time in our own zones (both internal and external). We constantly take in new flavours, some of which we enjoy and others of which we don't, like tiny spoons floating in a minestrone of emotions. It's challenging to understand everything.
Write about why your mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, and economic health are important and necessary to you and to your community.
I have pulled together journal prompts for you below and some which left me completely amazed. Do let me know if it was helpful?
Who do you think you’ll be?
Where are you living? What are you up to?
What is something you’d like to do in the next 1, 3, 5, and 10 years?
Try to imagine your “past you” without judgement. Was there an unmet need you’d like to address? If so, how can you console your past self?
What would you tell your past self knowing what you know now?
What do you miss about being younger? What don’t you miss?
Do you owe your younger self an apology? Can you show your past self some compassion?
What words of wisdom would you offer your past self?
What was great about past you? Compliment your past self and mean it.
Beauty is noticing. Look around. What do you notice around you that contains the simple pleasure of beauty?
What is beauty’s role in your life? Do you make time to enjoy art, a nice view, poetry, concerts, a good meal, etc.?
We all have internal blockages that we must face. What is a habit, thought loop, or belief system that is stopping you from having all that you desire? Where might it come from?
How might we turn these blockages into positive challenges or opportunities for growth? Sometimes these blockages arise from judgement or high expectations. How could you help yourself dissolve some of the judgments or expectations you may be carrying
